The proper use of keywords and keyword phrases is crucial in search engine result rankings. Using too many keywords in your article, website or URL can be considered "keyword stuffing" and is looked upon negatively by search engines. Using too few keywords can make your website seem unclear as to its purpose and will lead to poor search engine result rankings. Google is the search engines leader and has several tools available for the public to use to identify keyword search terms.

Google Search-based Keyword Tool Instructions
1. Open your Internet browser and navigate to the Google Search-based Keyword Tool's website. A link has been provided in the "Resources" section of this webpage.
2. Enter the desired keyword(s) into the text-box labeled "With words or phrases." Click "Search."
3. Allow Google to populate related keyword term ideas. Study the "Keyword Ideas" list paying attention to the "Monthly searches" column. This column will give you an idea as to the popularity of a keyword or keyword phrase.

4. Open your internet browser and navigate to the Google Keyword Tool's website. A link has been provided in the "Resources" section of this webpage.
5. Complete the "Security Check" prompt by entering the characters into the text box. Click "Submit" when complete.
6. Enter the desired keyword(s) into the text-box labeled "With words or phrases." Click "Search."
7. Allow Google to populate related keyword term ideas. Study the "Keyword Ideas" list paying attention to the "Global Monthly Searches" and the "Local Monthly Searches" columns. These two columns represent the popularity of a search term both in your specific country as well as around the world.
