What Nations Don't Have Any Oil Or Gas Production

Nations that lead in crude oil and natural gas production make headlines and send ripples throughout the world due to their control over vast reserves of natural resources. On the other end of the spectrum are those countries that produce no oil or gas within their borders. These economies are based on other types of raw materials.

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Located in Southeastern Europe, bordering Croatia along the Adriatic Sea, Bosnia and Herzegovina is known for its mineral resources, namely iron ore, bauxite, copper, lead, zinc and cobalt. While it exported almost 200 barrels of oil in 2007, it did not produce oil in 2008. It consumed approximately 30,000 barrels a day in 2009. This country produced no natural gas in 2010, but consumed an estimated 390 million cubic meters of natural gas in 2010.

Nepal

A landlocked country between China and India, Nepal consists of a flat river plain in the south, a central hilly area, and the Himalayas in the north. Its natural resources include quartz, copper, cobalt and iron ore. Oil-wise, and natural gas-wise, Nepal produced neither of these products in 2010, according to Central Intelligence Agency estimates. However, it consumed an estimated 18,000 barrels of oil in 2009. It did not consume natural gas in 2010.

Maldives

The Maldives are a group of islands south-southwest of India in the Indian Ocean. Its main natural resource is fish. There is no oil and natural gas production in the Maldives. In 2009, oil consumption in the Maldives was approximately 6,000 barrels per day. It had no natural gas consumption in 2010.

Cyprus

As of the 2010 CIA estimates, Cyprus produced 0 barrels of oil per day. An island republic in the Mediterranean south of Turkey, it also produced 0 cubic meters of natural gas. However, in 2009, it is estimated to have consumed 59,000 barrels of oil per day, while consuming no natural gas. Its main natural resources include copper, asbestos, gypsum, timber, salt and marble.

Hong Kong

Bordering China and the South China Sea, Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of China and its main natural resource is feldspar. It produces no oil or natural gas, but in 2010, it is estimated that it consumed 418,200 barrels of oil; in 2009, it also consumed about 3.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
