Fix Ceramic Molds
Whether you buy ready made ceramic molds or make your own, there is nothing more disheartening then when one breaks or a big chunk chips out. You know the mold will still work, if only you could fix it. It used to be that an old homemade fix made from condensed milk would work as a glue, but as those who tried it found out, it wasn't long before bacteria started growing on the plaster mold. Good news, there's a product on the market specially formulated to repair broken or chipped plaster molds. Unlike Humpty Dumpty, you can put your molds back together again.
Instructions
1. Apply App-II Mend-A-Mold to the two surfaces of the break in the mold. The mold can be damp or dry, it doesn't make any difference. Press the two pieces together and band them with a rubber mold band or masking tape to keep pressure on them. Wipe away excess glue from inside and outside of the mold with a damp sponge. Let it dry for two or three hours before using the mold.
2. Patch chips or lost chunks of the plaster on the inside of the mold by mixing up plaster and water. Weigh out equal parts of water and plaster and mix them together.
3. Paint a thin layer of the glue to the surface that is to receive the plaster and water mix. Use a small spatula to pack the mixed plaster into the the cavity where there's a chip or chunk of plaster missing.
4. When the plaster is close to getting hard, take a tool and smooth or carve away any excess plaster. Allow the patch to dry before using the mold again.
