Develop A Subwoofer Box With Drywall

Make your own subwoofer box with drywall.

Picking up a subwoofer box can be an expensive process, but it's possible for anyone with even the most limited DIY skills to put together a cheap but sturdy subwoofer box of their own, using low-cost materials available from any decent hardware store, in less than 20 minutes.

Instructions

1. Measure the dimensions of your subwoofer to get your minimum sizes and mark this on a sheet of drywall.

2. Measure out the desired dimensions for one face of your subwoofer box, taking into account the minimum dimensions already noted on your sheet of drywall, and mark with a pencil and a straight edge.

3. Run your utility knife around the long end of your subwoofer box face, and cut similarly along the horizontal across the full length of the drywall. This will allow you to take off a smaller section of your sheet of drywall which will be easier to work with and will limit wastage.

4. Fold and break your sheet of drywall along the vertical cut and run the utility knife along the paper on the reverse side to complete the cut.

5. Draw around the face of your subwoofer box as a template, and repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 to cut the second side.

6. Repeat the measuring and cutting process for the remaining two sides and the top and bottom, taking care to ensure your measurements are as accurate as possible, to form your box shape.

7. Fix five of the six cut pieces of drywall with drywall screws to form your box, inserting the subwoofer speaker and sealing any gaps with acoustic sealant before affixing the final piece of the drywall box.
