Moldresistant Construction Techniques

Stop mold in its tracks before it ever gets started.

During the construction of a new home, there are several measures you can take to make your home resistant to the growth of mold. Continuous exposure to mold can lead to severe health problems. Those that are at the most risk are children, individuals with compromised immune systems and the elderly. You can help stop the growth of mold in your home by choosing construction materials designed to be resistant to mold growth.

Construction Material Sealant

Use construction sealants designed to provide a moisture resistant barrier that inhibits the growth of mold. Moisture and heat are the key ingredients that provide the perfect recipe for mold growth. Sealants keep moisture from penetrating the building materials during all phases of construction, and can be used on most all building materials including wood and drywall.

Mold Resistant Lumber

Use mold resistant at all stages of construction. It is treated during production and is designed to stop mold from to growing in or on its surface. New home construction can get wet with unexpected rain which can lead to mold problems later on if the wood is not completely dry before it is covered up. Mold resistant lumber is not affected by rain.

Insulation

Don't forget Insulation when using mold resistant materials in your construction projects. This material can get wet from roof leaks, and unless it is rated as mold resistant it can cause mold to grow in your attic and walls. Mold resistant insulation is treated with a fungicide, and dries much quicker if it does happen to get wet. The combination of fungicide and the ability to dry quickly stops the ability of mold to grow in your home.

Drywall

To protect your walls from the potential growth of mold use a mold-resistant drywall. This product costs a little more than conventional drywall. Mold is usually first noticed when you begin to see it growing on your walls. Mold resistant drywall is treated inside and out, and using this product in combination with other mold resistant construction materials will help keep your home safe from the growth of mold.
