Repair drywall with joint compound after wallpaper removal.
Removing wallpaper may result in damage to the underlying drywall. If the wallpaper was poorly installed, or installed without using the correct primer, the wallpaper may pull off portions of the drywall as it is being removed. If the majority of the wall is damaged, you may need to contact a contractor for assistance to repair the wall. If just a small portion of the wall was damaged during removal, you can fix it yourself using products found at home improvement stores.
Instructions
1. Wipe the surface of the damaged wall with a soft, dry cloth to remove any debris or dust before repairing the wall.
2. Paint the wall using a waterproof primer. Paint the entire wall, including the damaged areas that need to be repaired. The primer seals the wall so that any moisture in the repair materials do not cause the drywall to bubble or crack.
3. Allow the primer to fully dry.
4. Apply joint compound in a smooth, even layer to the damaged areas. Keep the layer of compound as thin as possible while still covering the damage.
5. Allow the joint compound to fully dry.
6. Use a sander or sanding block to even the repaired surface. Wipe away dust. If the surface is still uneven, apply another thin application of joint compound and then sand again once dry.
