A projector usually hangs horizontally, though it can vary.
Hanging a projector from the ceiling can help keep it out of the way and allow it to function much like a projector in a theater. Most projectors are designed to attach to a number of mounts that will then themselves attach to the ceiling. You should check all the parts and instructions of your mount, as hanging processes vary. The exact type of ceiling you have and other factors can also affect the hanging process.
Instructions
1. Locate the ceiling joists in the vicinity that you will hang the projector. Joists are the boards that run perpendicular to the ceiling, not the strapping boards that run parallel along the ceiling.
2. Place and hold the projector mount up against the ceiling, making sure its mounting holes are underneath the ceiling joists. Mark the spots on the ceiling where the mounting holes are.
3. Drill holes into the wall at the marked spots where the projector will be mounted, using a drill and bit that is slightly smaller than the projector's lag screws.
4. Connect the projector to the mount using the mounting screws contained within the mount itself and the mounting holes that should be in the top of the projector.
5. Place the mount up against the ceiling again, lining up the mounting holes in the projector and in the ceiling; you may need another person to help hold it in place.
6. Drill the lag screws into the mounting holes in the projector and the ceiling/joists.
7. Plug in and turn on the projector, then adjust its position and angle so it projects its image onto the desired spot.
