Make Round Drywall Corners

Construction worker with drywall

Drywall finishing is a skill that is extremely valuable when perfected. You can use this skill at home or in the work force. Being able to finish your own drywall projects will save you a great deal of money and will leave you with a strong sense of accomplishment. Drywalling outside corners requires the use of corner bead, which is a metal or plastic casing used to create a perfect corner, rounded or square. The determination of which style of corner bead to use is purely up to the homeowner and her sense of style and decor.

Instructions

1. Measure the height of your wall at the corner you will be finishing. Cut the drywall bullnose corner bead to the appropriate length using scissors or metal shears.

2. Hold the corner bead in place to ensure that it fits properly. Using the staple gun, secure the corner bead to the corner.

3. The corner portion of the bead is raised above the edges. When securing the corner bead to the wall, make certain that the ridge is raised, so that you will have a depth to fill with compound.

4. Using a 6-inch drywall taping knife, apply drywall joint compound to the corner bead. Allow the compound to dry, and sand with a sanding sponge until smooth.

5. Using an 8-inch drywall taping knife, apply drywall topping compound to the corner bead. Allow the compound to dry, and sand with a sanding sponge until smooth.

6. Using a 10-inch drywall taping knife, apply drywall topping compound to corner bead. Allow the compound to dry, and sand with a sanding sponge until smooth. Repeat this step until you achieve the desired result.
