Stucco is a type of plaster material that can be applied to drywall to create a decorative surface or molding. If you have a stucco finish on the drywall surfaces in your home, you are not stuck with it. The decorative element created by the stucco might not match your home's decor. If that's the case, you have the option of removing the stucco. But you need to use the right methods or else you risk damaging the drywall.
Instructions
1. Remove all furniture from the space you're working in. Cover the floor with plastic sheeting.
2. Fill a spray bottle with warm water. Saturate small areas of the stucco with the warm water.
3. Scrape the stucco once saturated, using a drywall knife. Hold the knife at a slight angle to make removing the stucco easier.
4. Keep the drywall knife flat against the drywall as you scrape to make sure you don't knick the surface.
5. Add more water as necessary. Note that you might need lots of water to soften the stucco enough to scrape it away.
