Keyword reseach is very important in online marketing.
One of the biggest challenges for website owners is bringing visitors to their sites. Entering keywords is the primary method that visitors will use to find your website. Keywords are words or phrases Internet users enter through search engines to find anything. The search engine will then match the keywords within previously crawled Web pages from its indexed database, and present the top ranked ones to the searcher. You can use the Google Keyword Tool to help you find keywords to rank in search engines.
Instructions
1. Determine your target audience. Gather a list of at least six keywords or phrases you think someone would enter in the search engines if they were interested in getting information for your service or product.
2. Look for websites similar to yours and see what keywords are being used to find them. A good tool to use is Alexa (see Resource). Alexa is a source of website statistics, rankings and keyword information being used to find sites that would be similar to yours. You can use Alexa for online market research.
3. Perform keyword research. Open your Web browser and navigate to the Google keyword tool website.
4. Submit your six keywords to Google Keyword Tool. Click on "keyword ideas." This will generate similar keyword phrases that searchers have actually been using.
5. Click on the "Local Search Volume" column to sort the keywords and phrases by most to least searched.
6. Check each word or phrase for their popularity, how much competition is associated with them, and their monthly and global volume.
7. Look at the keyword phrases that get the highest search volume and lowest competition. If a keyword has high volume and too much competition, you will get a very low ranking or no ranking at all. The key is to get the keywords with high volume of traffic and medium to low competition.
8. Filter the high traffic and low competition keywords. Make sure you choose keywords close as possible to what someone would type in the search box looking for information available on your website.
