Placed On Stucco

Stucco is a material made of a powder and a binder. It is usually used to coat walls or ceilings, and it is common in the Western US. Stucco usually comes in a form that looks like wet cement. It is applied to a wall and then allowed to dry. Although it is simple to apply stucco, the curing process can take a long time.

Instructions

Applying Stucco to a Concrete Surface

1. Applying stucco to a concrete surface is much easier than applying it to a wooden surface. First, brush a bonding agent onto the concrete surface

2. Allow the bonding agent to dry.

3. Use a trowel to apply a scratch coat of stucco directly on top of the bonding agent. The coat should be between 1/4 and 1/2 inch thick.

4. Allow the scratch coat to harden slightly, and then use a plasterer's rake to make parallel scratches across the surface.

5. Allow the scratch coat to dry for 48 hours. Use a hose to mist the surface periodically while the coat is drying.

6. Use to a trowel to add a finish coat of stucco, between 1/8 and 1/4 of an inch thick. Finish the stucco to the desired texture.

7. Allow the finish coat to dry for another 48 hours, misting the surface periodically.

Applying Stucco to a Wooden Surface

8. Nail a layer of roofing felt over the surface.

9. Cover the roofing felt with the metal netting. Secure it with the roofing nails.

10. Use a trowel to apply a scratch coat of stucco on top of the metal netting. The coat should be between 1/4 and 1/2 inch thick. Make sure to force the stucco into the netting, which will help secure the roofing felt and the netting in place on the wall.

11. Allow the scratch coat to harden slightly, and then use a plasterer's rake to make parallel scratches across the surface.

12. Allow the scratch coat to dry for 48 hours. Use a hose to mist the surface periodically while the coat is drying.

13. Use to a trowel to add a finish coat of stucco, between 1/8 and 1/4 of an inch thick. Finish the stucco to the desired texture.

14. Allow the finish coat to dry for another 48 hours, misting the surface periodically.
