Homemade organic fertilizer helps cucumbers grow quickly and remain healthy.
Instead of commercial synthetic fertilizers, you can use organic fertilizer for your cucumbers to minimize the impact your gardening has on the environment. You can prepare the organic fertilizer yourself so you know exactly what kind of ingredients go into the fertilizer and can control its quality. Cucumbers require about 4 to 6 quarts of this organic fertilizer for every 100 square feet every year.
Instructions
1. Combine four parts seed meal, 1/4 part agricultural lime, 1/4 part gypsum and 1/2 part dolomitic lime. Mix the ingredients thoroughly in a bucket. For best results, use finely ground agricultural lime.
2. Add one part bone meal, rock phosphate or high-phosphate guano and one part kelp meal or basalt dust to the mixture. These ingredients make the fertilizer more effective, but they are optional.
3. Spread a 1/4-inch layer of the homemade organic fertilizer all over the soil before you plant the cucumber plants.
