Apply Exterior Stucco Over Block

Easily apply a stucco finish to block

Stucco is a popular exterior and interior decorative coating that is relatively easy to apply and holds up well against weathering. Applying stucco over block is one of the more easy projects that can be performed with stucco since very little preparation of the surface is needed. Properly apply the stucco to the block surface and achieve great looking results that will certainly liven your space.

Instructions

1. Apply a single coat of the bonding liquid directly onto the block surface with a medium-sized paint brush.

2. Hold the hawk in your non-dominant hand and scoop a portion of the pre-mixed stucco onto the hawk with your free hand.

3. Allow the concrete bonding liquid to partially dry so that it feels "tacky" to the touch, then use the steel trowel to scoop the stucco from the hawk onto the block surface in a 1/2-inch thickness. Use large sweeping motions with the trowel to apply the stucco.

4. Add texture by blotting the stucco with a damp sponge. You may also add a rough design by sweeping the flat trowel across the stucco in set pattern.

5. Spray the stucco with a mist of water once a day for an entire week. The stucco should be damp, but not soaked. The constant wet environment will allow the stucco to cure very slowly and increase the strength of the material.
