Identify Bad Chinese Sheetrock

Before renting, buying or selling a house, it's important to know if the house has reactive Chinese drywall. Chinese drywall emits harmful hydrogen sulfide into the air that can cause health problems, such as as headaches, nosebleeds, nausea, respiratory problems and skin irritation. In the United States, Florida, Louisiana, Virgina and Tennessee are the states where Chinese drywall is the most present and where you should be most concerned of the possibility of it being in your house.

Instructions

1. Check the back of your drywall for any of these words; KNAUF, ASTM36C, or CHINA. These words indicate that the drywall is from China, but the absence of these words does not mean that your drywall is not from China since a lot of Chinese drywall is unstamped.

2. Consider the following checklist as these are signs that you may have Chinese drywall in your home; Was the house built between 2001 and 2006? Does your house have a strong smell? Do you have breathing irritation or headaches while inside the home? Are the copper components of your air-conditioner system discolored?

3. Have the house tested with one of the following methods:

1.A K9 inspection of your walls. A K9 inspection is considered the most current and cost-effective option available for detecting Chinese drywall.

2. Air testing detection. It requires taking a sample of the air in your house and running exposure tests.

3. Material sampling. It requires pulling a sample and analyzing it.

4. Visual documentation method. It is the most commonly accepted.
