Use A Californiastyle Architectural Texture

California-style stucco products imitate the stucco of Spanish Mission style buildings.

California Stucco is the trade name for a type of exterior architectural finish that imitates the stucco exteriors of traditional Spanish Mission-style buildings. The term "California Stucco" is also used generically to refer to other brands of similar stucco. While true Spanish Mission architecture made use of stucco over adobe or stone, California-style stucco can be applied to frame, brick or block construction. The stucco is available in more than 25 colors.

Instructions

1. Make sure your base is properly prepared. For frame construction, you need to apply moisture barrier, galvanized wire stucco mesh, a 3/8-inch scratch coat and a 3/8-inch base coat of Portland cement.

2. For brick or block construction, you need to apply a scratch coat and brown coat of Portland cement prior to applying California Stucco.

3. Allow base coat to cure for two weeks before applying California Stucco.

4. Plan to stucco an entire section of the structure at one time to avoid marks due to slight differences in color and texture of the product. For example, stucco the entire back of a house at one time. If this is not practical, plan to stop at some natural breaking point, such as a door, or window.

5. Mix finish stucco with water in a wheelbarrow or other large container. Apply a layer 1/8-inch thick to the base coat with a trowel. No further coats are necessary. Finished stucco will cure in about 90 days.
