Installing a rubber shower liner
An older shower stall is typically lined with a lead shower pan underneath the mortar and tile. While this liner was considered innovative for its day, it always fails over time. These days a far more foolproof method is used. A rubber liner can be installed prior to laying tile in a shower stall. Fairly simple to install, it lasts far longer than its counterpart of yesteryear, and very rarely springs leaks.
Instructions
1. Measure the shower stall floor, and add 6 inches to these dimensions on all four sides.
2. Lay out the rubber liner on a clean floor and mark lightly with a pencil the measured dimensions. Use the box cutter to cut the rubber lining according to these measurements.
3. Lay the rubber liner into the shower stall floor. Use a box cutter to cut out a hole over the drain.
4. Smooth the liner, stretching it neatly into all four corners of the shower stall. Attach to the wood frame using a power drill and screws.
5. Smooth the liner up the walls a few inches on all four sides. Affix with a power drill and screws. Trim any excess with the box cutter.
